If you need functional clothing for everyday activities, like walks or playing outside in light rain, a water column of around 5,000 mm and breathability up to 5,000 g/m²/24h will be just right.

For mountain hiking and more extreme conditions, it's better to choose specs above 10,000 mm and 10,000 g/m²/24h.
